What is GST Threshold for Early-Stage Startups?

Nexa Consultancy | Startup & Finance Glossary

In India, businesses with an annual aggregate turnover exceeding ₹40 Lakhs (for goods) or ₹20 Lakhs (for services) are required to register for GST. However, this threshold does not apply to e-commerce sellers or those making inter-state supplies.

Startup Example: A new consulting startup crosses ₹20 Lakhs in revenue. It is now mandatory for them to obtain GST registration and start filing returns, regardless of whether they are profitable.

Our guides for pre-seed startups cover these initial compliance hurdles.
